Preserving your natural teeth for a lifetime is at the heart of dentistry. But sometimes that isn’t possible, and when it isn’t, Mitchell Family Dental’s professional staff will thoroughly explain the extraction procedure and provide professional care.
With your dental health and your overall wellbeing in mind, extractions are needed in cases when there is:
Tooth decay, like an infection, can spread through your mouth if it is not caught early. An infection that gets too deep into the roots, nerves, and blood vessels of a tooth can only be stopped with an extraction.
Periodontal or gum disease causes advanced tooth decay. Severe cases of gum disease affect the bone beneath the gums and cause loose teeth. When a tooth becomes too loose, an extraction becomes necessary.
In order for you to have healthy adult teeth, baby teeth need to fall out before permanent teeth grow in. On occasion, baby teeth remain in place too long and without a place for adult teeth to grow into, a tooth impaction develops. The tooth or teeth blocking the growth path must be removed to avoid further problems.
Dental crowding happens when extra teeth growing in or a smaller jaw anatomy. Removing one or more teeth alleviates this problem.
